Levo-72 is an emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) containing Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg, a synthetic hormone that helps prevent unintended pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (e.g., a broken condom).
How It Works:
Prevents or delays ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary).
Prevents fertilization by altering the movement of sperm.
Prevents implantation by modifying the uterine lining (not effective if implantation has already occurred).
Dosage & Administration:
Take 1 tablet (1.5 mg) as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, but no later than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.
If vomiting occurs within 3 hours, take another tablet immediately.
Effectiveness:
95% effective if taken within 24 hours.
85% effective if taken between 24-48 hours.
58% effective if taken between 48-72 hours.
Not effective after 72 hours.
